Helen Leach, Australian Artist

Birdlife, bee boxes and billabongs

Profile

Grampians artist Helen Leach is a prolific and multi award-winning artist with an instantly recognisable style. Her dramatic landscapes depicting the Australian bush and open country are represented in local and international collections, and sought by art lovers, lovers of the Australian landscape, and buyers of corporate and hotel art.

Helen’s portrayal of the distinct light and colours of the bush, a deft use of strong lines and texture, and a remarkable familiarity with her subject matter all contribute to her signature style. Her work reflects times of drought, wet and bushfire.

History

Self-taught, Helen began painting with oils while still at school. Her individual style developed after she married and moved to The Mallee region. Helen later moved to the Grampians and now lives at Lake Lonsdale, near the Grampians ranges.

A recent change to working with acrylics has been well received, with one of Helen’s first acrylics judged a finalist in the 2007 Heysen Landscape Art Prize.

Helen also works in pastels, watercolour and inks and is one of the Grampians Four artists, who exhibit annually at Hall’s Gap in spring.
